Operator Name: Roe Valley Rural Transport Volunteer Car Scheme launched in Roe Valley
Roe Valley Rural Community Transport launched their Volunteer Car Scheme today as part of Community Transport Week events happening across Northern Ireland (17-21 Sept 2007).
The Volunteer Car Scheme is a new addition to the services operated by Roe Valley Rural Community transport. Individuals are collected at their home, taken where they need to go, and brought back home again. A true door to door service.
Roe Valley Rural Community Transport is a non profit making charity working to provide transport solutions for people in this area. Manager Billy Moore says “This service is a wonderful addition to the Rural Minibus transport we also provide. Now individuals can call book transport at a time that suits them. We will collect them at their door, take them where they want to go and bring them back home again. The flexibility we offer is as good as having your own car sitting in your driveway”.
Transport is provided in the right type of vehicle to suit your needs. Roe Valley Rural Community Transport is particularly suitable for older people, people with limited mobility and people with disabilities.
Drivers are trained to ensure passengers have a safe and comfortable trip. Passenger needs are more important than keeping to a timetable or making money.
It’s the perfect solution for anyone who no longer drives or finds it difficult to access other ways of getting around such as public transport. If you rely on relatives or friends for lifts then give yourself more freedom and try the Volunteer Car Scheme.
Kellie Armstrong, Support & Development Officer for CTA Northern Ireland congratulated Billy and his team, “Roe Valley Rural Community Transport’s new project will offer more solutions to those people who find it difficult to get out and about. With one simple phone call a person will be able to book their transport and know that they will be provide with a suitable vehicle, a great driver and professional service.
The project is also being launched during our annual Community Transport Week (17-21 September) . This week we are celebrating all the local community transport providers across Northern Ireland, the great work that they provide in and for communities. Without community transport many people would be excluded from local community life. Community Transport works hard but is a “hidden” service.
Those that use Community Transport think it is wonderful. To keep costs down there is little money spent marketing or promoting services available across Northern Ireland. Community Transport Week is one of the few times a year when we have an opportunity to tell people about our successes.”
