VOLUNTEER POLICY

1. NMCT will promote volunteering by registering opportunities for placements with a Volunteer Bureau and in other information points.

2. NMCT has a role description for each volunteer post, volunteer driver, admin, etc. Each role description will clearly define the purpose of the role and tasks involved. The role of the volunteer will clearly be communicated to all staff.

3. Managers and supervisors will receive training to ensure good management so that all parties gain from the relationship.

4. NMCT will work with local groups to recruit and find appropriate placements for volunteers.

5. Volunteers can be recruited either directly through NMCT or through local groups.

6. Access NI checks will be carried out on each volunteers where necessary through the CTA service.

7. All volunteers placed with NMCT will be provided with support and guidance. Supervising staff will review progress on an annual basis to ensure that the placement is meeting the identified needs of the individual and is of benefit to both the volunteer and to NMCT.

8. NMCT will reimburse legitimate out of pocket expenses such as travel and meals for their volunteers. Expenses will be claimed by the 25th of each month.

9. Volunteers will be given training opportunities such as First Aid, Midas, etc as identified by supervisors.

10. Volunteers will be provided with written documentation on any policies or procedures relevant to the placement. All information regarding volunteers will be strictly confidential.


HEALTH AND SAFETY
All facilities in which volunteers are placed will meet Health and Safety standards in accordance with current legislation and insurance.

While working with NMCT all volunteers will be covered by the organisation’s insurance


REVIEWS
All volunteers will be reviewed on an annual basis to ensure that the placements is meeting the needs of both parties

This policy will be reviewed annually.


The Inland Revenue sets a rate for the reimbursement of driving expenses. They are set at a level to take into account depreciation and other running costs as well as fuel.

Inland Revenue approved maximum mileage rates 2004-2005:

Cars and Vans – 40p per mile for the first 10,000 miles & 25p per mile over 10,000 miles.

Motorcycles – 24p per mile.

Bicycles – 20p per mile.


Indicative Expense Rated for 2008-2009:

Meals - £2.50 per meal on production of a receipt.

Travel – Mileage at 40p per mile for volunteer drives incurring expenses while collecting the NMCT vehicle.

Mileage at 40p per mile for voluntary drivers.

Public Transport fare on receipt.


These rates will be reviewed annually and two weeks notice will be given of any changes.
