The most recent addition to the ranks of Rural Transport Partnerships is Lagan Valley Rural Transport. The partnership commenced full operations using two fully accessible minibuses in November 2005. A small core membership has been established and built up with all groups regularly making use of the vehicles for various purposes.
LVRTs scope of operation comprises the rural areas of Lisburn City Council. From this area, community, voluntary, church, school and youth groups are benefiting from the service provided, mainly through group hire. Regular jobs include transporting people with disabilities to and from day care centres. The partnership is still relatively new and is increasingly finding its feet with steady increases in membership from groups and individuals from across the rural Lagan Valley area.
Lower Ballinderry Primary School Choir regularly use LVRT for their transport needs. The choir participated in a schools Choral Competition in Bangor and were awarded a commendation for their efforts. The children all agreed that, along with their mode of transport, this was a winning combination.
The Mayors Carnival Parade in Lisburn provided an opportunity for LVRT to showcase its minibuses to large crowds, as they participated in the procession.
Shopping and day trips have proved popular with many individuals, especially when they were given the chance to spend a day in Ballymena and Newtownards on the lead up to Christmas.
One passenger said:
It was a really good day. The service provided and the driver was both excellent. I look forward to more day trips, hopefully in the summer time.
LVRT has been well received by all those who have experienced what the partnership has to offer.
