Operator Name: Fermanagh & South Tyrone Rural Transport
1. FLEXIBLE ROUTING / DIAL A RIDE
This particular service is very well established. It has been operating in our area from December 2001. While the initial demand has been high F.A.S.T is very much constrained by the limited size and nature of its fleet.

2. SELF DRIVE / GROUP HIRE
This has proved a very successful venture and the most significant element in terms of income generation. This has been operating since the company’s inception in December 1999 and has been supported by MiDAS Training. Its success has been restricted by fleet size.

3. MILEAGE RATE CHARGE
This will enable member groups and individuals to hire a vehicle with rural transport driver included and are charged per mile rather than an hourly rate.

4. SOCIAL CAR SCHEME
The need for this service has been identified. Individuals who require specific transport needs can avail of them by using a pool of volunteer drivers who will be managed by F.A.S.T. Again, this activity can be restricted due to specific insurance requirements.

5. SCS CHIT CHAT SERVICE
FAST Rural Transport have been looking at addressing the needs of older people in rurally isolated areas. This service will complement the Social Car Scheme by ensuring clients receive a call each weekday morning to check on their wellbeing as well as their transport needs for the coming week. This service will again be managed by a pool of volunteers. This expansion to our programme will ensure that those with restricted mobility and limited access to transport are catered for more efficiently and effectively.

6. FAST RURAL ACCESS PROGRAMME
This particular scheme was funded by two external funding bodies, Lloyds TSB Foundation and the Rural Development Council under the ‘Building Sustainable Prosperity’ Programme. This has provided a nine seater Multi Passenger Vehicle (MPV) and one full time driver, enabling the larger vehicles within the fleet to be released for more cost efficient and appropriate transport provision. Funding for this project has only been secured until November 06.
