Dungannon & District Community Transport has had good reason to celebrate this year. They have moved into spacious new premises and were successful in an application to their LSP for funding to purchase a new accessible minibus. DDCT is continuing to meet the needs of its users, e.g. elderly, people with a disability, youth, community/voluntary groups, mothers and toddlers and also its growing migrant workers community.
Sure Start group in Dungannon are one of 170 existing member groups who regularly use DDCT. DDCT provides services for groups and individuals through minibus hire, door to door and social car schemes.
Priscilla from Sure Start added; We use Dungannon & District Community Transport to access the local mother & toddler group here in Dungannon. This is an essential service for us. We also use Community Transport to attend English speaking lessons which is vital in helping us become part of the local community. The staff are very helpful and the drivers are friendly and welcoming.
Mary was presented with the keys of the new accessible minibus in August 2005, a welcome addition to the existing fleet of four accessible minibuses and one MPV that the group already utilise to service all members.
On the move to new premises Manager of the project Mary O Neill said, We have recently moved premises to Market Square in Dungannon where we hope we will be better positioned to service our members. The move is reflective of the huge success and development of Community Transport in Dungannon & South Tyrone Borough Council area and we are delighted that groups such as Sure Start can use us to get a helping hand to serve their greater needs.
DDCT has been funded through Investing for Health for a Passenger Assistant. This service is available to any registered member needing help to travel safely, encouraging independence for those who have had to rely on family and friends when wanting to travel.
As well as providing transport DDCT has continued to deliver training of MiDAS and PATS to its own drivers to those who volunteer to drive for their own groups and to private operators. |
