HAVE YOUR SAY AS THE NORTHERN IRELAND ASSEMBLY VISITS BALMORAL SHOW
04 May 2010
The Northern Ireland Assembly will be at this year’s Balmoral Show and wants to hear from you.
A range of Assembly Committees will be hosting events and activities focusing on rural issues. They will cover everything from how to modify or “soup up” your car safely, to accessing further education and training for rural young people and finding out more about the townland you come from.
Speaker of the Assembly, Mr William Hay MLA said: “The Balmoral Show gives the Assembly and its Committees a real opportunity to engage with one of Northern Ireland’s most important constituencies: the rural community.
“Over the past year, the Assembly has sought to engage more actively with all the people of Northern Ireland and put into place a programme of roadshows and other activities. Taking part in the Balmoral Show gives the Assembly, its Committees and MLAs a further opportunity to listen to people’s concerns on a wide range of issues.”
The Assembly Committee for Agriculture and Rural Development will be holding a meeting and ‘rural roadshow’ at the Show. This is your chance to come along and ask your questions on how the Committee is looking after the concerns of farm businesses and the rural community.
Also on the agenda for the Show are the interests of young people. The Assembly has plans to develop a Northern Ireland youth assembly. We want to hear your views on what the future youth assembly should do, how it will work and who its members should be.
And finally, the Public Accounts Committee will being coming along to explain how your MLAs examine Government spending to get value for money for you.
The Committees want to hear your views on the many issues that matter to you. Come along, meet your MLAs, and be part of shaping the future of Northern Ireland. Whether you are a farmer, run a small business or have an interest in the rural economy and society, visit the Assembly stand at C18 (near the food court) and have your say.
